Largest Mineral Sands* Supplier in Japan

In 1952, Iwatani became the first company in Japan to import mineral sands (the general term for granular ores such as zircon and titanium feedstocks). In addition to trading mineral sands imported from a leading global supplier in South Africa, Iwatani operates a 100%-owned mines in Western Australia. We are the largest supplier of mineral sands in Japan and draw on our global network and procurement ability to ensure a stable supply.

Procuring Biomass Fuel From Southeast Asia
[PKS (palm kernel shells), wood pellets, silica sand]
Iwatani imports PKS (palm kernel shells) and wood pellets from Southeast Asia. These materials are ideal for biomass power generation, a process in which organic material derived from plant matter is burned to produce electricity. Iwatani draws on analytical technologies developed at the Iwatani R&D Center to supply high quality biomass fuel to biomass power plants in Japan.

Rare Earth
The Rare Earth suppliers located worldwide available to Iwatani provide a wide range of solutions. Iwatani also procures the materials needed by specific customers—for example, fine-grain and high BET products processed in Japan.
