Product Characteristics

Offering significantly greater strength than most plastics, FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) is made by reinforcing resin with fibers. Lightweight, strong, offering excellent corrosion and weather resistance, FRP can be processed in many ways, making it particularly well suited as a material for liquid storage tanks. In addition to tanks, it can also be used in a broad range of applications, from everyday items such as vehicle and boat bodies, pipes, and building materials to aerospace and maritime applications. Applications continue to expand. The FRP tanks produced by Iwatani group company Iwatani Techno Co., Ltd. are hygienic and highly corrosion resistant. Excellent temperature retention characteristics (hot/cold) help conserve energy.

FRP Tank Recycling

To create richer lifestyles and a clean environment in the 21st century, Iwatani Techno promotes the recycling of used FRP tanks into raw materials and fuel for cement. The waste formed from used FRP products is separated into combustible resin constituents, which are then used as fuel in the cement firing furnace and residual glass fiber mixed with filler (e.g., calcium carbonate and aluminum hydroxide) to form the raw material for cement. In addition to meeting society’s needs by making and selling FRP tanks, Iwatani Techno is actively engaged in environmental conservation efforts and efforts to make effective use of our resources.

FRP tank recycling process overview

Waste FRP tanks are transported to intermediate processing facilities in eastern and western Japan, where they are sorted and crushed before being recycled into raw materials and fuel for cement.
