Secondary Metals

Helping to Create an Environmentally-Friendly Society

As underground resources become depleted and mining costs rise, growing demand for copper in response to the widening presence of EVs and 5G communications has focused attention on “urban mines”—copper and precious metals found in circuit boards from old smartphones and computers. Iwatani helps create an environmentally-friendly society by promoting resource circulation, in which secondary metals are produced from existing products.

Features

The demand for copper and other metals is expected to grow significantly in response to widening presence of EVs and 5G communications. Volumes of recycled metal derived from circuit boards are expected to grow. Iwatani is recovering stable amounts of metals from resources such as circuit boards in partnership with nationally-approved suppliers in India and Southeast Asia. We play an active role in sustainability business efforts to refine, roll, and recycle such resources.
