Low-Carbon Aluminum

Reducing CO2 Emissions Using Low-Carbon Aluminum Base Metal

Producing aluminum base metal requires a vast amount of electricity. Access to renewable hydroelectric power allows us to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 70%. Iwatani offers solutions that span a wide range of processes and fields, from the procurement of low-carbon aluminum base metal and materials to processed products. Low-carbon aluminum helps bring us closer to the SDGs and to a decarbonized society.

Features

On average, producing one ton of aluminum base metal consumes power equivalent to emissions of 12.5 t-CO2. Aluminum base metal produced using hydroelectric power or other renewable energy sources reduces carbon emissions from production to 2.4 t-CO2, a 70% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Typical Applications

  • Bodies for tablets and other communications devices
  • Displays, including displays for vehicle satellite navigation systems
  • Low-carbon aluminum specifications for aluminum can production
