Occupational Health and Safety/Health and Productivity Management

Our Policy

We regard our human resources to be the source of value creation through business growth and implementation of strategies. As such, Iwatani identifies HR strategies in the non-financial strategies of the PLAN27 medium-term management plan. To maintain and improve the health of employees—an essential part of making the most of our human resources—we focus on ensuring safe working environments and helping employees stay in good health, from a health and productivity management point of view.

Health and Productivity Management Declaration

In 2022, we announced our Health and Productivity Management Declaration to demonstrate our stance on health and productivity management initiatives to our stakeholders. We will continue to promote initiatives to protect the safety and health of our employees and their families based on the following declaration.

Health and Productivity Management Declaration

Since its founding in 1930, Iwatani Corporation has done business in line with its corporate philosophy: “Become a person needed by society, as those needed by society can prosper.” As always, our goal is to achieve sustained growth and strengthen corporate value by meeting key needs in our society.

To achieve these goals, it is essential that our all employees have the mental and physical well-being. Based on the conviction that our employees are our most important asset, we strive to create safe working environments and promote the health of our employees and their families.

We remain committed to creating new value and contributing to society by making it possible for all our employees to do their best in healthy and harmonious workplaces.

Promotion Structure

We maintain comfortable, safe workplace environments that meet the requirements of laws and regulations. At sites with 50 or more employees, we have established health and safety committees that meet monthly to discuss matters related to employee health management, preventing injuries on the job, and workplace health and safety. We also post the minutes of health and safety committee meetings on the intranet so that they can be reviewed by employees.
Meetings held in FY2022: 12 at the Tokyo Head Office and 12 at the Osaka Head Office

Main Initiatives Toward Health Maintenance and Improvement

Health hotlines have been set up at the Tokyo Head Office and the Osaka Head Office as part of a system for following up on health examinations. This system also encourages consultations concerning everyday health management, mental health concerns, and other topics to support the health of our employees.

Periodic Health Examinations and Dental Examinations

In addition to annual health examinations for employees through age 34, Iwatani provides annual comprehensive health exams for employees and directors aged 35 and older as part of efforts to support employee health management. We encourage insured persons to undergo dental exams for early detection and cavity prevention. Based on the results of regular health exams and comprehensive health exams, we provide guidance from industrial physicians and health staff to promote optimal health management for each and every employee. We require health exams for employees leaving or returning from posts abroad (including accompanying family members) as part of efforts to protect the health of all employees.

Efforts to Stop the Spread of Infectious Diseases

We encourage employees and their dependents to be inoculated against seasonal influenza, covering the cost of all vaccinations. We also provide various vaccinations in the workplace as part of measures to stop the spread of infectious disease and promote business continuity.

Stress Checks

Based on the perspectives of stress management and mental health, we conduct annual stress checks. These are followed by population analysis to contribute to workplace environmental improvements, in cooperation with industrial physicians. Other initiatives intended to prevent mental health issues include setting up an external hotline and raising awareness through various opportunities, including training for new employees and tiered training.
Percentage of employees undergoing stress checks in FY2022: 95.9%

Mental Health Education

Training programs, including training for new employees and training by level, include lectures on self-care and line care related to mental health to raise awareness of ways to prevent mental health issues.

Efforts to Reduce Long Working Hours

The company is advancing workstyle reforms to improve business efficiency alongside efforts to rectify long working hours. Through the appropriate management of employee work, including adopting no-overtime days and a computer shutdown system as a tool for managing working hours, we are promoting workstyle reforms to improve business efficiency. Health and safety committees receive reports on workers who work long hours and undertake follow-up activities in cooperation with industrial physicians and other specialists.
