The Iwatani R&D Center was founded by Iwatani, which has developed diverse businesses centered on gas and energy to create elemental technologies for tomorrow in partnership with its customers.

Initiatives at the Iwatani R&D Center

Creating elemental technologies for tomorrow in partnership with our customers—this is the mission of the Iwatani R&D Center.

Our goal is to be a “research lab open to society.” Taking advantage of Iwatani’s strengths as a trading company and manufacturer, the Iwatani R&D Center integrates both our information capabilities for identifying the needs of society with our unique technical capabilities, which have been cultivated over the years based on our advanced gas technologies. We create new technologies and products in joint efforts with our customers and partner companies, as well as universities, public institutions, and government agencies.

Research and Development

Working with state-of-the-art analytical and testing equipment and experimental environments, we promote research and development efforts with universities and public institutions, as well as customers and partner companies from a diverse range of fields, including automotive, semiconductor, medical, and food industries.

Facilities

In addition to a large laboratory that can be used for practical testing of equipment and facilities, we provide a welding demonstration room to satisfy diverse welding needs, a multifunctional cleanroom, and a development center for regenerative medicine and biotechnology research. The resulting environment is ideal for experiments across a wide range of research fields.
We also provide the world’s top-level high purity gas analyzers and facilities for analyzing the specialty material gases used in semiconductor manufacturing, as well as the most advanced high-precision analyzers for various research demands, including nanoscale material analysis, environmental analysis, pesticide residue/microbial analysis for food and sanitation.

Iwatani Advanced Hydrogen Technology Center

To realize our goal of building a hydrogen energy-based society, we founded the Iwatani Advanced Hydrogen Technology Center in October 2021. Building on the technologies we developed to date, the Center will accelerate the development of green hydrogen manufacturing technologies and other new proprietary technologies related to hydrogen.

Administrative System for Public Research Funds

The Iwatani R&D Center manages public research funds under the following administrative system.

System of Accountability

Chief Administrator	Executive Officer in charge of the Iwatani R&D Center	As administrator in chief, this individual supervises the Iwatani R&D Center and implements appropriate management of public research funds.
Senior Administrator	General Manager of the Iwatani R&D Center	This individual assists the chief administrator in managing public research funds.
