Tokuyama Corporation

Iwatani Corporation (hereinafter “Iwatani”; Head office: Tokyo and Osaka; President: Masao Nomura) and Tokuyama Corporation (hereinafter “Tokuyama”: Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhisa Kogo) established Yamaguchi Liquid Hydrogen Corporation, a joint venture for producing liquid hydrogen, in Shunan, Yamaguchi in October 2011 and began construction of a plant. The plant was completed on June 11 and is set to begin operations.

The office of the new company and the liquid hydrogen factory are located within the Tokuyama Factory in Shunan, Yamaguchi. The plant will receive hydrogen gas generated in caustic soda production via pipes and refine and liquefy it. Iwatani will sell all liquid hydrogen produced in this plant.

The new plant is Iwatani’s third liquid hydrogen plant following the one in Sakai, Osaka and another in Ichihara, Chiba. It will supply liquid hydrogen widely over western Japan, mainly the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu areas, thereby strengthening the supply system to ensure further stability of liquid hydrogen supply.
