Notice of Establishment of a Running Team
Headed by Hisakazu Hirose as Director


Iwatani Corporation (Head offices : Osaka, Tokyo; President : Masao Nomura; Capital : 20 billion yen) is pleased to announce that it has decided to establish a corporate athletics team (or a team of women’s ekiden runners).
The running team will be headed by Hisakazu Hirose as Director, who is well qualified with a track record of successful achievements as the professional athletic trainer for long-distance runners including Mizuki Noguchi, winner of the gold medal in the women’s marathon at the Athens Olympics. We will strive to contribute to local communities and society by promoting athletic activities, while developing and supporting middle and long-distance runners who participate in women’s ekiden (road relay) races.

- Training achievements

Served as Team Wacoal training coach.
Acted as a training partner of Izumi Maki (Achievements include representing Japan twice at the Summer Olympics: Barcelona in 1992, 10,000 meters, and Atlanta in 1996, marathon; competing at the World Championships: Tokyo in 1991; Stuttgart in 1993; former world record holder for the 20,000 meters, the Asian record for the half marathon, Asian record in the 5,000 meters, and the Japan record for the 10,000 meters)

Served as Team Globaly’s head coach. Trained Mizuki Noguchi (Achievements include winning the women’s marathons in Nagoya in 2002 and Osaka in 2003 (Japan record); winner of the silver medal in the marathon at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics held in Paris; winner of the gold medal in the marathon at the 2004 Athens Olympics; and winner of the 2005 Berlin Marathon (in a Japanese record))

At Sysmex, served as a coach for Mizuki Noguchi (Achievements include winning the 2007 Tokyo International Women’s Marathon and representing Japan in the 2008 Beijing Olympics)

Since he became Director of the team in 2010, Team Sysmex has competed in the All-Japan Women’s Corporate Ekiden Championships for four consecutive years. In 2013, Mizuki Noguchi competed in the women’s marathon at the World Championships in Athletics held in Moscow.
