Iwatani to Take Part in Verification of Low-Carbon Hydrogen Utilization Model in Project Commissioned by Ministry of the Environment
Contracted by Toyota Motor Corporation to Store and Transport Hydrogen

Iwatani Corporation (Head Office: Osaka and Tokyo, President: Masao Nomura, Capital: 20 billion yen) will take part in low-carbon hydrogen utilization model verification, with the Keihin Coastal Area in Kanagawa Prefecture as the verification area, as part of the Regional Partnership/Low-Carbon Hydrogen Technology Verification Project for Fiscal 2015 sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment. Under the project, Iwatani will supply hydrogen to fuel cell-based forklifts scheduled to be used at warehouses and fresh produce markets along the Keihin Coastal Area.

The demonstration project seeks to reduce the environmental footprint by utilizing electricity generated by the Hama Wing wind power plant operated by Yokohama City and using hydrogen manufactured by water-electrolysis units from Toshiba Corporation in fuel cell-based forklifts. Iwatani will be responsible for the hydrogen storage and transportation aspects of the demonstration project.

In addition to building hydrogen-oriented infrastructure, such as the establishment of hydrogen stations aimed at the early realization of a hydrogen society, Iwatani is actively working on projects to reduce the environmental burden through the use of hydrogen.
