The Ariake Hydrogen Station Has Filled 2000 FCVs in Total. -A Significant Milestone in Demonstrating the Safety of Supply Facilities for the Establishment of a Hydrogen-based Society-

On January 18, 2007, the JHFC Ariake Hydrogen Station (*1), operated jointly by Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. and Iwatani International Corporation, reached a total of 2000 fuel cell vehicle hydrogen fillings, a first for a single hydrogen station in Japan .
Under the JHFC project (*2) organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. and Iwatani International Corporation jointly constructed the first hydrogen station in Japan capable of filling both liquid hydrogen and compressed hydrogen gas. It started operation in June, 2003. Over the last three and a half years a number of initiatives aimed at the establishment of a hydrogen-based society were implemented at this station along with the fuel cell vehicle hydrogen filling. These included assessing the energy efficiencies and environmental load reductions resulting from the hydrogen station, and acquiring data which could be used for creating for regulations and standardization for hydrogen station safety.
Recently, on January 18, this station reached a total of 2000 vehicle hydrogen fillings, and the delivery of 4,300kg of hydrogen for filling, since opening. A fuel cell vehicle filled with this quantity of hydrogen from this station could circle the earth 11 times.
When it comes to practical applications, it is significant that, over the three and a half years of operation, 2000 fillings were achieved by this station with no accidents or casualties. Iwatani will make every effort to ensure the station continues to operate, paying special attention to safety, and making further contributions to the widespread use of hydrogen stations.
