Hydrogen Refueling Station in Osaka Morinomiya Completed
Incorporating information dissemination facility to educate public about hydrogen energy

Iwatani Corporation (Head Office: Osaka, Tokyo; President: Masao Nomura; Capital: 20 billion yen) has been working on the development of commercial hydrogen refueling stations, aiming at an early realization of a hydrogen society. Today, the opening ceremony for the Iwatani Hydrogen Refueling Station in Osaka Morinomiya was held in the Morinomiya district, Joto-ku, Osaka-shi.

The new hydrogen refueling station will adopt an offsite supply method using liquefied hydrogen, by which the hydrogen fuel for the station will be transported by tank trucks from the liquefied hydrogen production plant HydroEdge in Sakai-shi, Osaka Prefecture.

The layout of the hydrogen refueling station is spacious, in order to accommodate not only the filling of fuel cell vehicles, but also the filling of fuel cell buses that are expected to be widely used in the future. Furthermore, as part of Iwatani’s development project, the station incorporates an information dissemination facility aimed at increasing public acceptance of hydrogen energy, with images projected onto a large screen and a diorama installation modeling the use of hydrogen energy in day-to-day life.
Iwatani has been proceeding with the construction of the hydrogen refueling station after being selected in May last year by Osaka Prefecture as a pioneer in the promotion of “hydrogen refueling station and information dissemination hub facility business utilizing prefecture-owned land.”
Osaka Prefecture, which afforded us this business opportunity, is collaborating with industrial, academic, and government organizations on a variety of hydrogen projects, such as promoting the introduction of hydrogen and fuel cells into industrial vehicles, with a view to developing new hydrogen verification test projects in strategic and wide-ranging fields based on its H2Osaka Vision formulated some time ago.

Since July 2014, Iwatani has been advancing the development of commercial hydrogen refuelling stations, primarily focused around Japan’s four major metropolitan areas. Going forward, Iwatani will continue to establish and develop hydrogen refuelling stations in joint cooperation with local governments and other regional bodies, and by developing and connecting what were until now sparsely placed refuelling stations into a continuous line, will continue to work toward the early spread and popularization of FCVs and increased convenience for FCV users.

Iwatani Hydrogen Refueling Station in Osaka Honmachi, also constructed in Osaka-shi, officially commenced operation on April 11. The station is mobile, with hydrogen filling taking place mainly in Honmachi, Chuo-ku, Osaka-shi.
