Completion of Yamanashi Prefecture’s First Hydrogen Refueling Station in Kofu-shi
The 16th Hydrogen Refueling Station in Japan

Iwatani Corporation (Head office: Osaka and Tokyo, President: Masao Nomura, Capital: 20 billion yen) has been working on the development of commercial hydrogen refueling stations, aiming at an early realization of a hydrogen society. On this occasion, the Iwatani Hydrogen Refueling Station in Kofu  has been completed as the first station of its kind in Yamanashi Prefecture, opening on February 23. Iwatani has already opened hydrogen refueling stations at fifteen locations in four metropolitan areas such as Amagasaki-shi in Hyogo Prefecture, Kitakyushu-shi in Fukuoka Prefecture, Minato-ku and Ota-ku in Tokyo, and Kariya-shi in Aichi Prefecture. The newly opened station is Japan’s 16th hydrogen refueling station.

Iwatani Hydrogen Refueling Station in Kofu has received support for the introduction of facilities from Yamanashi Prefecture, which is working on activities organized around the “Yamanashi Fuel Cell Industrialization Conference,” and the research of Yamanashi University towards making Yamanashi “an advanced fuel cell and hydrogen prefecture.” Iwatani is working to promote a hydrogen society, and has received land from Yamanashi Kotsu Co., Ltd., which has conducted successful demonstration tests of hydrogen engine buses. Many customers, particularly the FCV users in the Yamanashi Prefecture, are expected to use the station.

The station adopts an offsite supply system of transporting liquefied hydrogen by tank trucks from the Chiba Plant, which is the liquefied hydrogen production plant of Iwatani Industrial Gases Corporation in Ichihara-shi of Chiba Prefecture.

Iwatani, aiming for the early realization of a hydrogen society, plans to open hydrogen refueling stations at twenty locations in the four metropolitan areas in fiscal 2015. It is now working towards the completion of hydrogen refueling stations in the remaining four locations.
