Production Capacity of Liquid Hydrogen Doubled
Yamaguchi Liquid Hydrogen Corporation

Iwatani Corporation

Iwatani Corporation (Head Office: Osaka and Tokyo, President: Masao Nomura,) and Tokuyama Corporation (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroshi Yokota) decided to increase the liquid hydrogen production capacity of Yamaguchi Liquid Hydrogen Corporation, a joint venture established by the two companies, to twice the current capacity. This increase is being made in preparation for the anticipated rise in the demand for hydrogen in the future. The supply of liquid hydrogen produced by the expanded line is scheduled to start in November 2017.

Yamaguchi Liquid Hydrogen Corporation commenced commercial operation in June 2013 as the third production base of the liquid hydrogen business in the Iwatani Group. Since that time, it has addressed supply needs across the western part of Japan, primarily covering the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu districts.
Demand for liquid hydrogen continues to rise year by year due to the growing needs in industrial arenas, such as fuel for rockets launched from the Tanegashima Space Center, as well as semiconductors and chemical materials. In addition to these needs, demand is expected to increase significantly in response to the expanding applications for fuel cell vehicles and fuel cell buses, both of which are expected to be used widely in the future.

The two companies will continue moving forward with efforts to enhance the liquid hydrogen production system, helping to bring about a society based on the full-fledged use of hydrogen energy.
