Japan’s First Airport Hydrogen Station to be Launched
– Construction of Iwatani Hydrogen Refueling Station in Kansai International Airport Decided –

Iwatani Corporation (Head Office : Osaka and Tokyo; President: Masao Nomura; Paid-in Capital: 20 billion yen) has decided to construct infrastructure to supply hydrogen to fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), which have now hit the market, and fuel cell buses, the number of which is expected to increase in future, on the premises of the Kansai International Airport as part of its ongoing effort to construct hydrogen infrastructure.
It constitutes part of the Hydrogen Grid Project, which is one of the pillars of the Smart Island Vision implemented by New Kansai International Airport Co., Ltd. in a bid to evolve the airport into an environmentally advanced airport. Construction is planned for the Phase 2 Island. The hydrogen station will have a fresh look with an eye-catching contrast between a canopy (roof) in the shape of a wing and a tall liquefied hydrogen tank. (See the conceptual drawing.)
Not only for refilling vehicles with hydrogen, the station will also act as a showroom where fuel cell vehicles and hydrogen-related technologies will be displayed.
The station uses the offsite method, whereby liquefied hydrogen is transported by truck from Hydro Edge Co., Ltd., Iwatani’s liquefied hydrogen production base located in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, to supply to fuel cell vehicles. Osaka Prefecture, to supply to fuel cell vehicles.
