Relocation of JHFC Ariake Hydrogen Station and Restart of Operation

Iwatani Corporation (head office: Tokyo and Osaka, president: Akiji Makino) and Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (head office: Tokyo, chairman: Shigeya Kato) have completed the relocation of the JHFC Ariake Hydrogen Station that had been progressing since last November and will restart operation of the hydrogen station at the new location (address: 1-5-8 Ariake, Koto-ku, Tokyo, Japan) on April 12, 2010.

 

 We will continue to carry out the hydrogen supply proving tests lead by the Resources and Energy Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization to obtain and collect data and know-how on safe and effective operation of hydrogen stations. Based on results acquired from the proving tests, we will study development of future commercial hydrogen infrastructure and ideal next-generation service stations to carry out appropriate measures, taking circumstantial changes into consideration.

 

 

【Features after relocation】

1. As before, we will offer compressed gas filling at 35MPa via the off-site liquid hydrogen storage system (no liquid hydrogen filling service is offered).

 

2. Our new efforts with next-generation service stations in mind include the following:

(1) Installing pure-hydrogen type household fuel cells (1KW level) to supply electricity and hot water in our office buildings (using hydrogen from the station).

(2) Installing rapid chargers (30KW) for electric vehicles to offer a charging service. This service is to undertake and test the Promotion of Electric Vehicle and Environment Improvement Proof Project 2010 led by the Resources and Energy Agency of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.  During the test period (until the end of July 2010), the rapid charge service will be available for free.

 

The new station is located 500 meters north of the former station, with similar easy access from the inner-city area.

 

【Background】

June 2003:

Established the new “JHFC Ariake Hydrogen Station” on land owned by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. After establishment, a total of over 3,100 fuel-cell-powered vehicles were supplied with hydrogen fuel for the 6 and a half years to November 2009.

 

November 2009:

Started preparation for relocation of the existing hydrogen supply system, due to expiration of the contract for the land for the station concluded with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government at the end of March 2010.

 

April 2010:

Restarted the operation of the hydrogen station at the new location.

LHV: Lower heating value or net heating value. Energy generated when the fuel is completely combusted, which can be substantially used.
